2018 Carl Sandburg House Student Poetry Contest

Students from the 4th grade to the 11th grade gathered this week for the 2018 Carl Sandburg Poetry Contest award ceremony. Many students and their families drove from as far away as Charleston to read poems composed for this special event. 

The depth, the sensitivity, the imagery was astonishing. It was obvious that this was not only a significant event in these children’s and families’ lives but that this contest goes a long way to encourage poetry in young people.
